Our Mission
The mission of Centro Cultural Hispano de San Marcos (Centro) is to serve as a community beacon for the preservation, development, promotion, and celebration of the Hispanic arts, culture, heritage, and values.

Centro's programs and educational curriculum include the areas of visual arts, theater, dance, literature, music, multimedia, and the culinary arts. These vibrant educational classes and interactive events for children, adults, families, and diverse audiences take place throughout the year.

Fall 2015 Programs at Centro
Most of our programs are free of charge, but donations are most welcome to keep these programs going!

Spanish Conversation Classes
This free class is led by a native Spanish Speaker and offers students the opportunity to sharpen up their verbal Spanish skills. (This class is for adults, a children's class may be offered in Spring 2016.)
  • Wednesdays
  • 15-Year-Olds & Up
  • 6 - 7 PM
This free class is available for people wanting to learn to play the accordion instrument. Instruments are available at Centro, but we welcome students to bring their own. Our instructor works with one to two students at a time on Saturday mornings, as per individual scheduling upon registration. We encourage adults and children to apply!

Education for Peace & Understanding Classes: More than Just Tolerance
This free class is offered twice a month where children are invited to learn about universal virtues, hear stories with positive and uplifting messages, play group games, and create art. This activity is sponsored by the Baha'i Community of San Marcos, Texas.

    • December 5 & 19
  • 6 to 12-Year-Olds
  • 10 AM - 12 PM
Ballet Folklorico
This free youth ballet folklorico class teaches several traditional "folk" dances from various regions in Mexico. We welcome boys and girls to learn these beautiful dances! (Adult classes are not yet available.)

  • Beginners: 5:30 PM
  • Advanced: 6:30 PM
Children's ArtSpace
This free children's art class explores the many different ways one can be creative and imaginative. Each class is different and exciting! (Students are divided into 3 age groups for classes on Thursdays and Fridays.)

  • Tuesdays, 6 - 7:30 PM: Family Art Nights
  • Thursdays, 5 - 6 PM: 3 to 9-Year-Olds
  • Fridays, 5 - 6 PM: 3 to 13-Year-Olds

As of October 2, limited spots are available.

Youth Piano
This low-cost option is available for weekly scheduling. Our instructor works one-on-one with beginners and with more advanced students teaching them this great art! (Scholarships are available--inquire administrative office.)

  • Saturdays (morning instruction)
  • 6-Year-Olds & Up

After-School Tutoring
In collaboration with SMCISD, we offer free tutoring for children in 3rd, 4th,  5th, and 6th grade twice a week. Be sure to sign in the tutoring log!
